line drawing
If you had bare walls in your home, what would you do them? Well Charlie Kratzer decided to take $10 worth of Sharpies and go to town creating an amazing basement mural.

Here’s a little preview:

And then go to this link for a complete 360 view.  it is absolutely amazing!

It just goes to show you don’t need expensive materials to create something beautiful!

I love the look of simple line drawing with touches of limited color.  I have been playing around with it in my illustrations now and then. Here's an illustration inspired by Charlie Kratzer's beautiful use of line in his basement drawing.

catalog inspiration
Whenever I get the Anthropologie catalog in the mail I rush to open it and dive in! I tear out the pages of the things that might give me inspiration later.

Here’s a page from my tear pile ... I love how they have taken an old book and used it to create a whole scene.

I imagine an entire mantle of books all with trees. Maybe add glitter to the branches and battery tea lights to create a holiday display! So many ideas from just one catalog! Don’t even get me started on all the ideas I get when I go into the store!

getting creative with paint chips
When I go to the hardware store I always sneak over to the paint chip aisle and grab as many as I can. ( Shh! Don’t tell Home Depot or Lowes!)I love to use them in my journaling, and various projects. Some of the larger paint chips are perfect for cutting with punches and using in your layouts.

Sherwin Williams has launched a very creative ad campaign using paint chips!

Here are a couple stills from the commercial:

This commercial made my heart go pitter patter. It is one of my creative fantasies to work on a project like this. Perhaps animate my artwork for a commercial or TV spot. I am dreaming!!

Make sure to check it out! You’ll never look at paint chips the same way again!

a little inspiration
I can't get enough stop motion animation or creative animation. Today I found out about cartoonbrew.com from Ward Jenkins (@wardomatic on twitter). They have a whole section on stop motion and I had to drag myself away from the computer to get some work done. My mind is swirling with ideas of animations I want to create! Now where can I learn how to make what is in my head a reality. hmmm.

here are a few of my favorites:

United Airlines commercial, beautiful and poetic. If more commercials were like this I wouldn't fast forward them!

Undone from Hayley Morris on Vimeo.

Haley Morris graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design. Undone, her senior film project, is a tribute to her grandfather who suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease. Very touching piece.

the Blank Page from George Metaxas on Vimeo.

This one was made only with cardboard materials.

FLUFFY MC CLOUD from conorfinnegan on Vimeo.

This is so cute. and the mix of live motion with animation is so creative.

Something Left, Something Taken from Tiny Inventions on Vimeo.

I really love the fabric look of the figures in this one!

The United Arab Emirates Ecological Footprint is an initiative aimed at inspiring people in UAE countries to reduce their individual footprint. This clever stop-motion promotional makes the point by using recycled paper figures and settings. LOVE the use of paper in this one!

Opening theme to United States of Tara - a series on Showtime. Love all the drawn elements, especially the retro gal in the kitchen.
